Ashley Olsen has joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The child star-turned-fashion designer, who was presented with the CFDA's biggest award, Best Womenswear Design, in 2012 with her sister Mary-Kate for their label, The Row, was elected by the CFDA last month. We are happy to say that young designer and Michelle Obama favorite (as well as a favorite of our own), Prabal Gurung is also joining the ranks at the CFDA. The Nepal-born, NYC-based designer has had a steady rise to fame, dressing the First Lady, an array of young Hollywood, creating a collection for Target and also landing the position of creative director at ICB - all within the past several years.
The other new board member is Kate Spade president and chief creative officer Deborah Lloyd. The CFDA is an invitation-only union that consists of 400 designers who are either based in America or who are Americans working abroad. We are excited to see what such strong forces will bring to their leadership roles at the CFDA!
