Carolina Herrera Enlists Designer Wes Gordon Following Shakeups

Following the tumultuous departure of design director Laura Kim from Carolina Herrera last July, the New York-based brand has gained one new talent: Wes Gordon. The young American designer, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, who launched his eponymous label in 2009, is now consulting for Herrera.

Reps for Herrera confirmed to the New York Post that Gordon – an industry darling –  is consulting for the brand, saying, “We are simply working on a few projects with him. He is working on bridal.” Gordon said of his own women’s collection, “It’s on pause. We didn’t do a collection last season. The company still exists. We’re just sort of assessing the model and what the plan and strategy is for that business.”

Interestingly, given the bitter battle that occurred between Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta when Kim joined the latter house (and Herrera subsequently filed (and then settled) a strongly worded lawsuit), Gordon has some experience working for Herrera’s rival, as well. He interned with de la Renta – as well as Tom Ford – before launching his womenswear label.
