The World Gold Council, the market development organization for the gold industry, is having some trademark troubles. The international trade group has been trying to federally register "LoveGold" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in jewelry and promotional classes, and is facing major opposition from French jewelry company, Societe Cartier. Not surprisingly, Cartier has held various federal trademark registrations stemming from the name of its best selling Love bracelet since 1975. According to recent reports, the WGC registered a somewhat similar-looking stylized logo for its "LoveGold" and "Love Gold" marks, which it filed for in 2012. More to come ..
