Following reports in July that Alexander Wang would be the next designer to team up with adidas for a collaborative collection, the German sportswear giant and the New York-based design are confirming the partnership. The collab will be announced in connection with the showing of Wang’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection during New York Fashion Week on Saturday evening. According to a TFL source, the parties have confirmed the partnership and debut the collaboration in the finale of Wang's Spring/Summer 2017 show this evening.
Wang - who is best known for his often-sporty downtown style, which has been synonymized with the model-off-duty look - is the latest addition to Adidas’ growing cache of designer collaborators, which includes Stella McCartney, Raf Simons, Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto and Kanye West. Many of these relationships are longstanding. Yamamoto initially approached the German athletic company for his fall 2001 collection, which featured co-branded sneakers. The following year, Adidas launched Y-3 with Yamamoto, and in April expanded the collection with Y-3 Sport, a line of urban sportswear for men and women.
Wang's collection, which will consist of garments and footwear, will be entirely unisex and for non-show goers (who were able to get their hands on the collab as soon as the show was over), it goes on sale in NYC and Brooklyn tomorrow by way of pop-up shops tomorrow in accordance with the following schedule. The prices range from $80 to $200 for tees and hoodies, respectively.
