Saint Laurent creative director, Hedi Slimane relocated the house's design team to Los Angeles several years ago, and now he's taking it a step further. The brand has announced that it is set to show Part I of its Fall 2016 collection at the Palladium in Los Angeles on February 10th - the day before the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2016 womenswear shows begin.
According to a statement from the brand:
SAINT LAURENT FALL 2016 MEN AND WOMEN PART 1 WILL BE PRESENTED IN LOS ANGELES ON FEBRUARY 10 TH 2016. "SAINT LAURENT AT THE PALLADIUM’’ WILL BE PRESENTED DURING THE WEEK OF THE 58 TH GRAMMY MUSIC AWARDS IN LOS ANGELES.SAINT LAURENT FALL 2016 WOMEN PART 2 WILL STILL BE PRESENTED IN PARIS ON MARCH 7 TH 2016.
‘‘SAINT LAURENT AT THE PALLADIUM’’ IS A TRIBUTE TO THE STRONG MUSIC SCENE IN LOS ANGELES AND IS THE SECOND PROJECT OF HEDI SLIMANE IN LOS ANGELES AFTER HIS EXHIBITION ‘‘CALIFORNIA SONG’’, AT THE L.A. MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN NOVEMBER 2011.
The announcement, which the house began teasing with the launch its official Instagram account on Monday, comes just over a week after rumors began swirling that Slimane had quietly left the design house due to "creative differences" with its executives. YSL's public relations team swiftly denied the claims, saying that Slimane is very much still at the helm of the house. Whether the partial move to showing in LA is a display of unity and an embrace of Slimane's vision or a going away party for Slimane, who joined the house in 2012 and has reportedly hit a wall in terms of his contract discussions with the brand, is yet to be determined. Given the rumors of Slimane's impending departure, either approach seems perfectly reasonable.
