The fiftieth annual Super Bowl is underway and we have all of the evening's most noteworthy fashion highlights. Up first: Lady Gaga (pictured after the break below), who wore a custom Gucci suit by Alessandro Michele to sing the National Anthem. Beyonce opted for a custom DSquared2 leather jacket, inspired by the late Michael Jackson, and Bruno Mars in all leather Versace.
As for DSquared2, it is a Milan-based label, headed up by Canadian-born, London-based twins Dean and Dan Caten. The brothers launched their menswear collection in 1994, after graduating from Parsons School of Design and moving to Italy to work for Versace and then Diesel. In 2003, the Catens began designing womenswear under their label, as well, making their debut in a runway complete with supermodels, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova, Karolina Kurkova and Fernanda Tavares, and warm reception from the fashion press.
Known for their outdoorsy details (fur-trimmed coats, plaid, chunky knits) and a glam-rock aesthetic (deconstructed corsets, biker jackets, hand-stitched denim), the brothers have garnered fans that include Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba, and Kate Hudson, amongst others. They have previously designed tour costumes for Beyonce’s On the Run tour, as well as for Christina Aguilera, Madonna and Britney Spears. According to the design duo, “The intelligent mix of irreverent Canadian wit and refined Italian tailoring, combined with an attention for details are the foundation of Dsquared2 philosophy, that has given life to a unique concept of alternative luxury.”
