Late last week, the French national police shut down an international ring of counterfeiters of Hermès, which consisted of twelve people, some of which were current Hermès employees. The fake Birkins and other Hermès bags were sold in Europe, America and Asia. As of this weekend, two Hermès employees were terminated in connection with the counterfeiting and more are expected to be fired in the near future.
The French luxury company released a statement saying that the bust follows a year-long investigation that stems from "abnormal behavior identified through the house’s internal monitoring systems." The Paris public prosecutor has stated that one ring alone has made an estimated $22 million in sales.
