Vintage Raf Simons’s wares have swiftly become the garments of choice for those who can find/afford them. It is not uncommon to see old school Raf Simons designs - some from nearly 20 years ago - on the likes of Kanye West (many of whose garments are on loan from the famed 25-year old collector, David Casavant) and other rappers, Rihanna, and young street style influencers, as of late.
Similarly, recent designs of Simons’s run rampant in street style photos during the various fashion weeks. And they have proven to be a popular source of "inspiration" (read: imitation) for designers today, who have taken to "referencing" Simons's garments from again - almost 20 years ago. Rarely do we see such staying power in fashion.
As for who has the most impressive collection of the prized Simons wares, it is certainly Casavant, who has a “museum level archive” of Raf Simons garments. According to Casavant’s site, his archive “is a private collection of the world’s rarest and most coveted garments located in New York City, focusing primarily on the work of conceptual menswear designers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
The archives contain several thousand pieces that have been collected over the span of one decade and offer the world’s most comprehensive scope of garments by Austrian designer Helmut Lang, and Belgian designer Raf Simons.”
Interestingly, G-Dragon has an impressive collection, as well, which actually does not come from Casavant. The K Pop star's collection was on display during his band’s recent international tour.
