Men’s fashion is certainly taking notice of Juun. J in a big way as of late, and rightfully so. The Seoul-born and based designer, who has garnered fans that include Korean pop stars G-Dragon and Taeyang, as well as Wiz Khalifa, Rihanna, and even Kylie Jenner, among others, was named as this season's menswear guest designer at Pitti Uomo. As a result, instead of showing in Paris, the Korean designer, whose brand is owned by Samsung, staged his Fall/Winter 2016 collection today during Pitti, the bi-annual men’s fashion trade show that has been underway since Monday in Florence, Italy.
Since launching his namesake collection in 2007 in Paris, Juun. J is creating buzz for his street-meets-avant-garde aesthetic, which he refers to as "street tailoring." For Fall 2013, Juun. J teamed up with American artist Greg Simkins for a range of oversize sweatshirts with bold prints. Before that you may recall his post-World War II gangster for inspiration for Spring/Summer 2013. Each season we see his staple, experimental tailoring and his often-exaggerated proportions, as well as a hybrid of his choosing – he is quite fluid in his inspirations; for Spring/Summer 2016, he explored deconstructionist denim and a finale of all white silhouettes, wide sleeveless vests and abbreviated shorts. It's hardly a coincidence that Juun. J's hybrid aesthetic, draped and larger-than-life, is making waves and earning him recognition.
And for Pitti fans, this season's Designer Project will consist of Adidas Originals by White Mountaineering, which the trade show organizer announced this past October, will take place as part of a special event.
