Kanye West's Fall/Winter 2016 runway show slash album release event at Madison Square Garden is shaping up to be quite the spectacle. After an unspecified number of tickets to the event sold out in roughly ten minutes this week, the rapper is reportedly looking for extras to take part in the production. According to a recent casting notice posted by Onset Productions, an audience and specialty casting company, West’s team is looking for "up to 1200 PAID extras," who will be “positioned throughout the floor of Madison Square Garden in a fully designed set” and take part in “performance gestures.” (No word on whether they will be outfitted in looks from his F/W 2016 Yeezy collection for adidas).
According to reports, West will not actually be performing at the event but Italian contemporary artist Vanessa Beecroft, who collaborated with West on his previous two season’s shows, will perform. West's runway show/album release party, which was scheduled long after the majority of other New York Fashion Week runway shows, is one of most highly anticipated events of the week and is slated to take place on February 11th. (And for an account of what the casting process was like for some said extras, head over to Fashionista).
As for the casting of West’s runway show models, that appears to be underway, at least according to a photo that models Nykhor Paul and Indi Irvin (the latter of which, below left, appeared in West’s Spring/Summer 2016 show) posted this week, which was tagged with Kanye West's Instagram account handle and captioned: "Going casting crazy." Maybe most interesting: the bodysuits that the models are wearing. It appears as though West might be going the same route as his previous two collections in terms of garments (think: lots of neutral colored body suits, leggings, hoodies, and not surprisingly, an emphasis on the footwear). As you may recall, Yeezy Season show-goers were treated to two very similar looking collections for both Season 1 and Season 2.
