Often dubbed "the New Saint Laurent woman," Poland-born, Paris/London-based Ewa Wladymiruk (Supreme, City Models, Models 1) has made quite a name for herself since being scouted just last year. She debuted in the Armani Prive haute couture show in the summer of 2012 and then walked for Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton the following October. She has since walked for Kenzo (she opened their Fall 2013 show), Giambattista Valli, Ulyana Sergeenko, Roksanda Ilincic, and Julien Macdonald, among others. She has also graced the pages of various Vogues, Jalouse, Pani, and K magazine - just to name a few. We talked to Wladymiruk about being in high school, being compared to her favorite model, working for Saint Laurent and more ...
The Fashion Law - How old are you and you’re from Poland, right?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I'm 17 and I'm 100% Polish.
The Fashion Law - You were discovered online by Model Plus. Prior to being scouted, did you think you were so-called “model material”?
Ewa Wladymiruk - Yes, I was discovered on the internet by a Polish scout. I was always really tall. Always much taller than other kids and thin. So, I really wanted to be a model.
The Fashion Law - How do you think you are different from other models?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I might be different because I'm always a vulcan of energy. Also, I have an unsusual passion ... mixed martial arts.
The Fashion Law - What were you doing prior to getting scouted/working as a model?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I was attending school, profesionally swimming, dancing and doing horseback riding.
The Fashion Law - Have you finished school?
Ewa Wladymiruk - No, I'm still at school. I am in my 2nd year of high school. So, I have one more year left. I'm studying English and history.
The Fashion Law - Is it difficult to be enrolled in school and to be modeling at the same time?
Ewa Wladymiruk - It's really hard to be a student and a model because you need to connect to two worlds and keep it going. But I feel like a normal high school student. I just don't go to school everyday.
The Fashion Law - And what do your classmates think of you being a model?
Ewa Wladymiruk - My classmates are great and they are really keen on me.
The Fashion Law - You really caught my eye in the Saint Laurent Spring/Summer 2013 show. How was it working with Hedi Slimane? (I know you can't say too much, as all his models sign a confidentiality agreement).
Ewa Wladymiruk - I love working with Hedi Slimand and the whole Saint Laurent team. They really take care of you and the want your personality, not just your body and face.
The Fashion Law - I think you're completely gorgeous and so does much of the fashion industry. Do you think you're pretty?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I always say that I'm not pretty. My face might be interesting or eye-catching but I think I'm too weird in most people's taste to be pretty. Cinderella was pretty but not me. ;)
The Fashion Law - Quite often you are compared to Freja Beha Erichsen and publications are calling you the next Freja. I think that is probably a big compliment! What do you think?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I think comparing me to Freja is the biggest compliment because she is my favourite model! She has this amazing rock style and attitude. She has a great taste of fashion, and really has the same point of view as me. And of course, she is extremely beautiful.
The Fashion Law - What are you obsessed with right now?
Ewa Wladymiruk - I'm obsessed with Tim Walker's pictures, martial arts and, I have always been obsessed with ancient Rome and Egypt.
