A year after his Spring/Summer 2014 modeling debut, London-based Harvey James (New Madison, I Love Models, AMCK, New York Models), had a strong Spring/Summer 2015 season, walking for Bottega Veneta, Fendi, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Richard Nicoll - just to name a few. We caught up with HarvJam, who spoke about where he was discovered ("a fairly typical scouting story", he says), why he was so chill about his Prada debut, his guilty pleasure and more …
AGE: I am 20 years of age right now
HOMETOWN: I was born in Banbury. But I mainly grew up in the Warwickshire around the Royal Leamington Spa area. Yes, Royal!
I WAS DISCOVERED … Back in the summer of 2011 I believe. This sounds like the beginning of a Bryan Adams song. But yeah, I was just on a weekend visit shopping with my girlfriend at the time. A fairly typical scouting story really, sorry.
DID YOU THINK YOU WERE “MODEL MATERIAL”? No, I genuinely didn't. I'm sure everyone says that, but I really didn't!
OF HIS PRADA DEBUT: I walked exclusively for them, yes. At the time I really didn't understand anything in the fashion industry, so I didn't quite comprehend how much of a fantastic opportunity it was. So backstage I was very calm and was quite blasé about the whole affair! It wasn't until after the show that I realized how much people take note of that show.
FOR FUN I LIKE TO … For fun? What is fun? Joking, umm, I usually play my guitar, record some covers to put on YouTube (massive plug there) and go to the pub/go out.
THE BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT FASHION/MODELING: One of my main prejudices about becoming a model was assuming that all the other models were unintelligent, vacuous, vain and arrogant. But it turns out 99% are genuinely really good guys and I've made quite a few very good friends. However, as with the population in general you always get the dickhead, but it's natural. Also I assumed all the casting directors/stylists/photographers would be totally evil. Turns out everyone is very cool! So thumbs up all round.
WHEN I AM NOT MODELING, I AM … So, I am currently on a year out of University, I was studying English Lit and Lang at King's College London. But, other than that I am pursuing basically all opportunities that come my way. As I said I'm doing my music a bit and hopefully working on a short film in the near future.
GUILTY PLEASURE: Smirnoff Ice [smiles]
