Sid Ellisdon (of Models 1, Wilhelmina, Why Not, and Scoop) was scouted by Models 1 in London several years ago, and has gone on to be quite successful in the industry. Sid’s edgy London look has landed him on the runways of Hermès, Costume National, Moschino, and Topman (just to name a few), since he made his debut in 2009. He has also appeared in Arena Homme Plus, GQ Style, 10 Magazine, and Wonderland, and you probably recognize him from his ad campaigns for Calvin Klein, River Island, Diesel, A.P.C., and Topman. He talks to us about Calvin Klein, cutting his hair, what he's obsessed with right now, and more ...
The Fashion Law – How old are you and what's your nationality?
Sid Ellisdon – I'm 22 and was born in England, but my mother is Swedish. So, my left side is English and my right side is Swedish.
The Fashion Law – What did you think of modeling before you got started?
Sid Ellisdon – To be honest, modeling had never crossed my mind. Before I started, I was working for the council as a painter and decorator for 3 years. So, when I was scouted on a night out, it was quite exciting to be doing something totally different. I had no idea it would turn out to be a long term job. I though they used you for one job and that was it, but it turned out quite differently.
The Fashion Law – Has there been a specific job you loved so far?
Sid Ellisdon – I will always have to say shooting the CK campaign is one I'll tell my kids about when I'm an old man, but to be honest, most jobs I do abroad turn out to be great! Shooting River Island with Elen von Underworth in L.A and Miami is always fun. They have a great team and great locations. Last time we were in Frank Sinatra's old house, which was amazing!
The Fashion Law – Do you think there are any downsides to modeling?
Sid Ellisdon – There's loads of small stupid things like ... I've wanted to shave my hair off for four years now, but you gotta remember if you look like a peanut head you might not work for a few months. Or say I wanted to go gym and get bigger, I can't because then I won't fit into the clothes. Also not really having structure and not knowing what's around the corner is both good and bad at the same time
The Fashion Law – Is there a particular designer or design house that you absolutely want to work with?
Sid Ellisdon – Anyone who pays well, then I'm happy =)
The Fashion Law – What do you like to do when you're not traveling and working?
Sid Ellisdon – Going to the gym gives me structure when I'm not working and I've also started kick boxing now. So, I gotta make sure I can block the kicks to the face. Lol! I love cars, and, so, I go most weeks to car shows. Aside from that, I go to the pub, play guitar, and spend time with the missus.
The Fashion Law – Where do you see yourself in the next several years?
Sid Ellisdon – Hopefully on MTV cribs showing you my house.
The Fashion Law – Last question ... what are you obsessed with right now?
Sid Ellisdon – My obsession always has and always will be Nando's Chicken - so much so that if you're reading this Nando's, I will be very gratefull if you sort me out. Lol. I also want a black card.
