Moncler Wins Major Trademark Lawsuit as China Fights Counterfeiters

Moncler won a legal battle against a Chinese counterfeit seller in a Chinese court. The luxury outerwear maker, whose down jackets sell for up to $2,000, reported that it has been awarded 420,000 euros in damages by an intellectual property court in Beijing, stating, "This is believed to be the first judgment under China's new trademark law to grant maximum statutory damages."

In December 2014, Moncler sued native Chinese company, Beijing Nuoyakate Gourmet, alleging that it was selling counterfeit jackets and had filed several trademark applications for the Moncler trademark in China and also registered domain names bearing the trademark-protected Moncler name.
