According to Cathy Horyn, the New York Times fashion critic and one of the biggest Raf Simons fans out there, the Belgian designer is definitely in at Christian Dior. Much of the industry has been romanced by Simons since the summer of 2005 when he was appointed creative director of Jil Sander.
Prior to this, Simons was a largely uncommon name, designing only for his eponymous menswear label, which is based in Antwerp. Simons said a teary goodbye to Jil Sander, which is owned by Prada, following its showing at Milan Fashion Week this past February. Along with Marc Jacobs, Simons has been a front-runner in the search for a new creative director for Dior following John Galliano's abrupt ousting in February 2011.
