The recent news that Hermès's womenswear director Christophe Lemaire is leaving has resulted in the speedy (less than a week later) official appointment of his successor. A somewhat surprising choice (for anyone who is not really up on the inside world of the business of fashion, that is): Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski. While most people have never heard Nadège's name, at age 36, she is arguably one of the industry's best kept secrets as of late. She has certainly been making a name for herself in the industry, albeit a low key one. Before taking up the position of design director at Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's award winning label, The Row, she did stints as senior designer at Céline under Phoebe Philo and at Maison Martin Margiela. While Nadège's start date has not been released, we do know that Lemaire will show his final collection for the Paris-based design house this October during the Spring/Summer 2015 womenswear shows. Of her impending Hermès residency, the house's CEO Axel Dumas said: "Her talent and her creative track record will be great assets in the continued development of women's ready-to-wear. She will devote herself full-time to our house."
