One of the most common points of contention stemming from some of Hedi Slimane's Saint Laurent designs is that they look like your typical fast fashion wares. I emphasize the word "look" because we all know that the quality, cut and construction of the Saint Laurent pieces simply cannot be matched by those manufactured by Zara or Forever 21 or Topshop. However, that does not mean the high street brands aren't giving it a try, as Saint Laurent-style wares are being hawked by just about every fast fashion retailer for Fall. From the obvious ode to the Saint Laurent Fall 2013 menswear collection that appeared in a recent Zara lookbook and the lookalike of the Fall 2013 star sweater that is currently being sold by Mango to Primark's oh-so-familiar tartan school girl dress, pictured below on the right, which is nearly a dead-ringer for the one Saint Laurent showed for Fall 2013. It seems that the critics were pretty spot-on in their analysis of some of Slimane's designs and the ease with which they would transition from the runway to the racks of fast fashion retail stores. As for whether there is any competition between the originals and their fast fashion counterparts, it is highly doubtful.
