Michelle Siwy, the founder of NYC-based Siwy Denim, has filed a lawsuit against New Crew Production Corp., the current owners of the brand. Los Angeles-based New Crew gained financial control of the brand in 2009. According to her complaint, Siwy was dismissed from the company last summer, and was never granted the 32 percent stake in Siwy Denim following the acquisition. She reportedly filed in Los Angeles County’s Superior Court of California on April 3 and is suing for damages in excess of $1 million.
This follows a 2009 lawsuit filed by New Crew in a California Central District Court, against none other than Siwy Denim and Sandra Adamo (one of the brand's co-founders), in which the company claimed breach of contract. The two parties ultimately settled the lawsuit out of court just under a year later and Siwy filed a motion for voluntary dismissal under the circumstances that New Crew is barred from bringing an action on the same claim (aka dismissal with prejudice).
