Now that Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring has hit theaters, we are here to help you get the facts straight about the somewhat fashion law-related film. As we told you some months ago, the film is based on a true story about a group of L.A. teens, who have since become notorious for robbing the houses of numerous Hollywood stars. Some of the stolen goods: Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton luggage, Cartier jewelry, and Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, and YSL clothing and accessories. The bunch have all since been charged with various counts of residential burglary, some members were also charged with weapons and drug possession. Get to know each of the members below ...
Alexis Neiers (played by Emma Watson, above right)
The burgler-turned-reality television figure (think: Pretty Wild on E!) is the star of Coppola's film. The character based on Neiers, named Nicki, is played by Emma Watson. Neiers, who is now married with a newborn baby, has spoken out against the film, repeatedly claiming that it is inaccurate.
Sentence: Pled no contest to felony burglary charges involving actor Orlando Bloom’s house. Sentenced to 180 days in jail; served 30 days in jail (in a cellblock next to victim Lindsay Lohan) with three years probation and $600,000 restitution to Orland Bloom.
Nick Prugo (played by Israel Broussard, above right)
Prugo (who's character is named Marc) was the first to be picked up by the police in connection with the Bling Ring. He subsequently admitted just about everything - including numerous crimes that the police were unaware of and the individuals that were involved. After initially appearing on several talk shows, including Good Morning America, he now refuses to speak to the press.
Sentence: Pled no contest to two counts of first-degree residential burglary involving break-ins at the homes of Lindsay Lohan and Audrina Patridge. This past April, he was sentenced to serve 365 days in jail, but was released just two weeks later due to good behavior and work credit.
Rachel Jungeon Lee (played by Katie Chang, above right)
Rachel Lee (otherwise known as Rebecca in the film) was the mastermind and leader of the Bling Ring. She was reportedly obsessed with celebrities and reality TV stars, particularly their clothing and lifestyles. She was living in Las Vegas with her father when the ring was broken up.
Sentence: Pled no contest to robbing Audrina Patridge’s home and received a sentence of 4 years in state prison - the longest sentence of all of the individuals involved. Lee served two out of four years and was released in late March for good behavior for involvement in a program in which inmates are trained for disaster relief.
Courtney Ames (played by Claire Julien, above right)
The former girlfriend of unofficial Bling Ring member Jonathan Ajar, Ames (who's named Chloe in the movie) grabbed headlines during her trial after wearing a necklace that apparently belonged to Lindsay Lohan to court. Ames is currently attending Pierce College, trying to avoid the spotlight.
Sentence: Pled no contest to receiving a jacket stolen from Paris Hilton. Sentenced to three years probation and 60 days of community service. Like other members, Ames got a light sentence when it was discovered that Brett Goodkin, an investigator in the case, had allegedly consulted on Coppola’s movie without getting clearance from his superiors.
Roy Lopez, Jr. (played by Carlos Miranda, above right)
Roped in by Courtney Ames with whom he worked at a restaurant in Calabasas, Lopez is the one who stole about $2 million of Paris Hilton’s jewelry (all later returned). He has reportedly since moved to Texas and is working on an oil-field.
Sentence: Pled no contest to receiving stolen property. Sentenced to three years probation and was given credit for the 100 days he had already served in jail.
Jonathan Ajar a.k.a “Johnny Dangerous” (played by Gavin Rossdale, above right)
Not officially a member of the Bling Ring, Ajar, who is played by musician Gavin Rossdale (named Ricky), was linked romantically to courtney Ames and was responsible for selling all of the stolen goods (that the members didn't keep). Ajar was technically not part of the D.A.’s official “Bling Ring” case and was charged separately. From the looks of Ajar's social media sites, he's still keeping up appearances: dining at Mastro’s in Beverly Hills, buying Rolex watches, and toting Louis Vuitton bags.
Sentence: Pled no contest to possession of cocaine for sale, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of receiving stolen property from the Bling Ring. He was sentenced in 2010 to three years. However, he has been out of jail since March 2011.
Tess Taylor (played by Taissa Farmiga, above right)
Tess Taylor, a Playboy model and the adopted sister of Alexis Neiers, was also depicted in the film, even though she was never sentenced for being part of the Bling Ring.
Diana Tamayo (above center)
The former high school class president, Tamayo was reportedly an asset to the gang, as she was small enough to crawl through dog doors to get inside the houses. She was not included in Coppola's film and has since "found God and [is] starting to get [her] career with fitness and nutrition going."
Sentence: Pled no contest to residential burglary for robbing actress Lindsay Lohan's house. She was sentenced to three years probation and 60 days of community service.
