It is safe to say that Nuj Novakhett's collection for Jaspal won't be hitting stores in the U.S. anytime soon. We spoke to a representative for Marked Showroom in Los Angeles and as of three months ago, they are no longer showcasing any of Novakhett's collections. Thus far, we were able to get Jaspal to remove photos of the infringing designs from its Facebook and when we expressed our concerns to the US-based stockists that Novakhett lists on her website, they assured us that they have no plans to sell the collection. We will continue to urge Jaspal to remove the infringing designs from its website.
As for Cushnie et Ochs, they are adamant about protecting their brand and planning to take legal action against Novakhett for her defamatory comments. The girls at Cushnie et Ochs have set up this timeline for us:
[Our] Spring 2012 collection showed in September 2011, the lookbook was shot and distributed in October 2011, followed by Pre-Fall 2012, which showed the second week of January 2012, followed by the Fall 2012 showing in February 2012. The collection in question by NUJ NOVAKHETT for JASPAL launched June 6, 2012.
Novakhett's claim that the lookbooks are so similar because she worked with Cushnie et Ochs' stylist, Keegan Singh, is false. He issued the following statement:
I, Keegan Singh, last worked with Nuj [Novekhett] on September 3, 2008, over 4 years ago. Since that day, I have not seen her again. We had a few correspondences of Facebook ... and I have not spoken to her since. I have not worked with her since that day ... and was not even present at her show. I have no deal memo in my possession. So, her saying I work with her is totally false.
