One of our favorite models, the androgynous Andrej Pejic, landed his first major ad campaign, which was shot last week in Paris. He will be the face of Kokorico, Jean Paul Gaultier’s second men’s fragrance. This may be concrete evidence signifying a continuing shift in the modeling industry. And it really is changing (even if the pace is slow). Once we left the era of the Super Model behind in the 1990's (think American beauties Cindy, Naomi, Christy Turlington), the industry is gradually starting to welcome more diversity, more androgynous and less conventional models into mainstream media.
The other model that we absolutely adore is Lea T, creative director of Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci's assistant-turned-model. She has starred in Givenchy's Fall 2010 ad campaign, appeared in Italian Vanity Fair and Vogue Paris, covered LOVE magazine and Elle Brazil, and walked for Givenchy. With the industry gradually starting to take these unconventional models under its wing, we will hopefully see quite a bit more of Lea T, who is a transgender model, soon, as well as others who don't quite fit the traditional super model mold, but are nonetheless, utter beauties!
