After decamping to Paris last season to show their Spring/Summer 2016 collection, it appears Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen will be back in New York this February to show the Fall/Winter 2016 offerings from their brand, The Row. According to the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s NYFW Calendar, The Row is set to show in its usual time slot, on Monday, February 15th at 9am. Judging from the chain of events last season, though, a spot on the NYFW Calendar does not necessarily mean the twins are locked in.
As you may recall, the mini moguls opted to show in Paris at the last minute this past October. After being scheduled to show in New York, the twins held press and buying appointments in Paris and then staged a lavish fashion show and party, which took place at a château an hour outside of Paris. And this wasn’t their first foray into showing in Paris; they moved their Spring/Summer 2011 affair to Paris after samples were not delivered to New York in time for their scheduled show.
The most recent move obviously raised a number of questions, including: why Paris this time and also, will Paris serve as their permanent new Fashion Week home or is this just a one-season thing (à la Givenchy showing its Spring/Summer 2016 collection in New York)? What we know is this: The move was “strategic,” Mary-Kate told the New York Times’ Vanessa Friedman. As for whether they will stay in Paris for fashion week next season or return to New York, the girls were pretty tight-lipped on the heels of the S/S 2016 show. “We’re opening our new store in Manhattan early next year. We’ll have to see how the timing works out,” Mary-Kate said.
Last season we learned roughly a month in advance of The Row’s schedule New York show date that it would be held in Paris, instead. So, as of now, it seems things are a-go for New York.
