Vogue just got slapped with a lawsuit stemming from the Kim Kardashian and Kanye West April cover shoot. Turns out, Rickey Spicer, the singer behind the 1970's track sampled in West's song "Bound 2", is suing the magazine for using the song in a behind-the-scenes video. Spicer slapped West and recording labels Roc-A-Fella Records, Island Def-Jam Music, Rhino Entertainment and Universal Music Group with a copyright infringement suit over the song this past December. That suit is still pending.
As for Vogue, Spicer filed suit in a Manhattan court against Vogue's parent company, Condé Nast, alleging that his "voice is used substantially throughout the video, comprising approximately 44 percent of the lyrics" and that Vogue “knowingly used the voice audio recording of Mr. Spicer without his authorization or consent.” As a result, he wants unspecified damages and the video pulled from Vogue's site.
