Cosmetics subscription company Birchbox is exploring a potential sale with several retailers, including Wal-Mart. Talks are said to have taken place between Wal-Mart’s U.S. e-commerce chief Marc Lore and Katia Beauchamp, the co-founder and CEO of Birchbox, a pioneer in the subscription-based services market.
If Wal-Mart were to buy Birchbox, it would mark the American retail giant’s fifth e-commerce acquisition since last August. Most recently, Wal-Mart acquired men’s fashion website Bonobos, in an attempt to a-pace with e-commerce leader Amazon.com Inc.
