THIS JUST IN: Olivier Lapidus to Replace Bouchra Jarrar at Lanvin

Olivier Lapidus will be Lanvin’s new artistic director, effective immediately. Lapidus, a French designer, will replace Bouchra Jarrar, who left Lanvin after only 16 months, as reported late last week, following reports of disappointing sales figures and rumored tensions between Jarrar and Lanvin’s chief executive officer Michèle Huiban.

Per WWD, “Lapidus recently launched what he is billing as the world’s first web-based couture house. The former head of the Ted Lapidus label, founded by his father, struck out on his own with the launch during the recent couture week. Customers can watch a runway show online featuring a see-now-buy-now option for each piece. Through a hotline available in 11 languages, they can book an appointment to be measured by a local team of seamstresses and then follow, via web clips, the entire creation process of each piece.”

Lapidus reportedly plans to turn the storied – yet struggling – Lanvin brand, which was founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889, into a “French Michael Kors,” per BoF, including introducing more accessible garments and accessories to help boost its revenues.
