Paris-based climate data platform Carbonfact has acquired Berlin startup Vaayu, a move that reflects growing consolidation in the fashion industry’s environmental compliance and product-level emissions data market as brands prepare for tightening global sustainability regulations. Founded in 2020 by former Zalando sustainability executive Namrata Sandhu, Vaayu developed what it says is “the world’s first automated AI software empowering retail brands and businesses to track and cut environmental impact in real-time.” Carbonfact, which works with brands including On, Ganni, and The North Face, said the acquisition will expand its product-level environmental data infrastructure and bring the combined platform’s reach to more than 300 apparel and footwear brands.
The transaction comes as fashion companies face mounting regulatory pressure tied to product-level environmental disclosures, including the EU’s Digital Product Passport framework, France’s Eco-Score regime, and California’s SB253 climate disclosure law. Carbonfact said the combined platform will integrate carbon accounting, eco-design, and environmental reporting tools supported by a database of more than 150,000 fashion-specific emissions factors and primary supplier data from thousands of textile factories.
The deal also highlights growing investor and industry interest in sustainability data infrastructure as compliance shifts from broad corporate ESG reporting toward SKU-level environmental measurement. As regulatory scrutiny intensifies, platforms capable of translating fragmented supply chain data into standardized compliance systems are increasingly positioning themselves as core infrastructure providers for the fashion industry.
